  2. The memory of the computer is corrupted, that is the hard disk is corrupted
  3. When the hard disk fails to pass a self-test, that is the DST (disk self-test) then the error 2000-0142 would pop up as the computer boots and would not go past this error message.
  4. The SATA cable that connects the motherboard to the hard disk is not well connected

The S.M.A.R.T test stands for Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology Test. Most computer manufacturers provide a pre-boot diagnostic tool for users to take advantage of, for fixing software or hardware related failures.

The error 2000-0142 could be hardware or a software related error. So, therefore, run the S.M.A.R.T test on your computer to determine the reasons why your hard disk failed, and you have the error 2000-0142 on your computer.

To run the S.M.A.R.T test on your computer, enter the BIOS setup utility as your computer is starting up. To enter the BIOS setup utility on your computer, it depends on what brand of computer as well as the version of windows you are making use of.
